In contrast to amorphous silicon detectors, it does not require a scintillation crystal to convert X-rays into visible light. Electron-hole pairs are created when X-rays strike the amorphous selenium layer. These electrons and holes will move in opposite directions under the action of an external bias field to form a current, and the current is integrated in the TFT to form a stored charge.
